"...maybe I was too intense..."

2430 Pieces of Toast

why oh why do YouTube's videos never resize for me... sorry folks, I'll figure it out eventually. For now, watch it cropped or open in YouTube....

yes please: Pantone espresso cups

Yes, I realize the cheese-factor of a graphic designer coveting any Pantone product, but I can't help myself! I use my Pantone book daily (at work we only match to PMS colors) and swill coffee like there's no tomorrow, so really these would be perfect... if only I could choose which set I like best.

found via the A PLUS R store and I'm sure many other places...

rePost: Little People- a tiny street art project

This is a project where the creator takes hand-painted miniature people and puts them out into our full-scale world... interesting results to say the least.

I was flipping through the latest Wired Magazine and was taken aback by these gorgeous pictures of candy coated gift ideas! (Why? Why not!)

Is it boozy coffee or coffee booze?

One thing on my agenda this weekend: make this coffee vanilla liquor!

Found on The Dinner Files (how great is that pitcher!?)

Scary dark, scary sweet, and scary delicious. The curing time – at least a few weeks – is key to the final quality of this liqueur. I tasted it right upon mixing and it utterly lacked the aromatic draw of the final product. Make a batch this weekend to have it well and ready in time for Christmas gifts or entertaining.

3 cups sugar

3/4 cup instant espresso (still dried powder, not made into espresso)

2 vanilla beans

3 cups vodka

Bring sugar and 2 cups water to a boil and stir to dissolve sugar. Add coffee and reduce heat to maintain a steady simmer. Cook, stirring to fully dissolve the espresso, for about 2 minutes. Remove from heat and transfer to a large glass jar or seal-able pitcher and let sit until more or less cool. Meanwhile, split vanilla beans open and se the back of a knife or a small spoon and scoop out the teeny tiny seeds (it seems more like a paste). Add seeds and pods to the coffee syrup. Pour in vodka. Seal and put it away for four to six weeks. Remove and discard vanilla pods.

Serve chilled on its own, in coffee, or over ice cream as a dessert.

Lovin' the Cold

I know I'm one of the few who actually likes the bitter cold (best shown by my choosing to go to school in Duluth- lake effect anyone?)- but look at this forecast! Perfect holiday weather if I do say so myself. Sweatpants, homemade quilts and mittens, here I come!

Tiny pies: totally worth making!

I stumbled across these on the blog Our Best Bites a month or so ago and I finally got around to making some this weekend. I made mine pumpkin, in honor of the upcoming frolic-day, but I will soon make some fun fruit versions so I can cute 'em up with some miniature lattice work.

I don't even particularly like pie, but the chance to eat out of a jar was too good to pass up. And let's just be honest, anything in adorable tiny jars is much more desirable than "real-life" sizes.

This is a pic off the Best Bites site, if I remember I'll snap a few of my own, but I wanted to give everyone a chance to make these for Thursday!

SOF: New Merch!

Just in time for that period of time when you are required to buy stuff and give it to people (otherwise known as "The Holidays"), there is new merchandise for sale in the Studio On Fire shop.

Pop on over and buy an item. Or seven.

movie credit obsession fuel

Fun fact about me: I am obsessed with movie credits. Always have been, probably always will be.

This weekend I finally hunkered down and watched Sherlock Holmes, after months of friends saying "You'll love the credits!" Whaddaya know, I loved the credits. This of course provoked me to find out a little more about the making of the credits and I found a fantastic website Art of the Title.

Go to it now, seriously, super interesting.

repost: Doyald Young

Found this over on Frank Chimero's blog, along with Frank, Doyald was one of our speakers at Design Camp 2010. Sadly, I wasn't able to see him speak (I was running around setting up a workshop), but I did have the pleasure of having breakfast with him- a truly delightful experience. Watch below and you'll see why: he's just a delightful person!

repost + event: James Victore

A great interview with James Victore was just posted over on Behance. My favorite excerpt:

"My third students [at SVA] aren’t allowed to use computers. It really frustrates them because they don’t know how to use their hands. But I say listen, I know how much time it takes to boot up a computer, and open InDesign, and you get a box, and you type a letter in it. And you make it this big. Then you make it this big. Then you make it this big. Then you make it this big. Then you move it over here. Then you make it red. Then you make it this big. And it’s like: You’re not designing! You’re organizing. That’s easy. Worry about that later."

AAAAND, you can see James Victore at AIGA MN's Design Conversations tomorrow at the W in Mpls. alongside AIGA national president Debbie Millman.

watching: My So-Called Life

I had the lovely treat of facing a rush deadline over the weekend, which is never fun. I was, however, able to work from home- which allowed me to pop in one of my favorite guilty pleasure box sets: My So-Called Life. Angela Chase (aka Claire Danes) is an oh-so-painfully awkward 15 year old in love with Jordan Catalano (aka Jared Leto), best friends with Rayanne the alcoholic and overly protective of her is-he/isn't-he gay friend Ricky. It's overly dramatic primetime 90's TV at it's greatest.

But lets be honest, Jared Leto is really the only reason for watching such a show. When I first got the box set a couple years back I was watching the commentary (yes, I am that dork that watches commentaries) and found out he's the lead guy in the band 30 Seconds to Mars! I love that band!

a funny, yet sad sentiment...
