Anne Hathaway.... rapping?

I can't decide if this makes me like her more or less... I think more.

How'd you do that?

"When you ask creative people how they did something, they feel a little guilty because they didn’t really do it, they just saw something. It seemed obvious to them after a while. That’s because they were able to connect experiences they’ve had and synthesize new things. And the reason they were able to do that was that they’ve had more experiences or they have thought more about their experiences than other people."

Design vs. Develop

Being a print designer I probably shouldn't poke too much fun at either (as they rock skills I don't have), but this was too good not to share.

Subway Maps

By far my favorite part of London was the tube. Yes, I know there's all sorts of cultural shenanigans to observe, but coming from the midwest where public transportation is less than ideal, the tube seemed gloriously genius!

Anyway, on to the point- these gorgeous subway maps!!

Friday Laughs

Oh my goodness... I'm crying right now I'm laughing so hard... I had completely forgotten about this until our bookkeeper brought it up today... just watch it... oh man. I needed that.

and then on the sidebar in YouTube there was an NPH clip, which of course I had to watch as well.

Thready Type

I'M BLOWN AWAY by this type by plenty of colour. The zoomed out view is impressive by itself, but once you get in on those close up shots- holy guacamole!! What a nice way to start the weekend. I'm so glad that Nole over at Oh So Beautiful Paper posted a link to these...

Right Round

So, as a designer you often have to make revisions and go several bouts of creative into a project. This I understand, although not always appreciate. Today *big sigh* is one of those days.

I have to go another round on a client project and this song immediately popped into my head, which made me Google it, which brought me to this video. Oh the silver lining of situations, two words: sparkly eyepatch!

... and the day is looking up :)

Bark at Art

The same folks who put together the Artisan Activist show have put together another show benefitting animals. The opening should be a good time, and is pet friendly!

Hungggry

It's 10:15 and I'm already hungry. Not a good way to start the day, lunch is a long way off!

Probably doesn't help that I saw a recipe for this guacamole bruschetta on Pinterest! Oh yum. I'm making this tonight for dinner (surprisingly I think actually have all the ingredients in my house already... weird... that never happens...)

Just a Taste

Guacamole Bruschetta

Yield: 12-15 servings
Prep Time: 15 min
Cook Time: 6 min

Ingredients:

½ loaf French bread
1 clove garlic
2 Tablespoons olive oil
2 tomatoes, medium chopped
2 avocados, medium chopped
1/3 cup finely chopped onion
¼ cup chopped cilantro
2 Tablespoons freshly squeezed lime juice
½ teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon pepper

Directions:

Preheat the oven to 400ºF.
Slice the French bread on the diagonal into ½" rounds and place on a baking sheet.
Toast the sliced bread in the oven for 3 minutes, then flip each piece over and toast an additional 3 minutes.
Remove the toasted bread from the oven and immediately rub with the clove of garlic (it works best to first cut a small tip off the garlic clove so that the oils will seep out).
Brush the tops of the garlic-rubbed toasts with olive oil and set aside.
In a large bowl, combine the chopped tomatoes, avocado, onion, cilantro, lime juice, salt and pepper. Mix together gently making sure the avocado is well coated in the lime juice.
Spoon a portion of the mixture onto each of the garlic toasts and serve.

Creative Compensation

I was completely sucked into an article on the 99% today about how you can't expect increased creativity purely through higher compensation. It referenced an article by Richard Florida who surveyed IT workers about what motivates them. I couldn't really agree more with the top 10.
  1. Challenge and responsibility
  2. Flexibility
  3. A stable work environment
  4. Compensation
  5. Professional development
  6. Peer recognition
  7. Stimulating colleagues and managers
  8. Exciting job content
  9. Organisational culture
  10. Location and community

Slides!

After seeing this video on A CUP OF JO of slide in a Dutch subway it made me wonder where else there are slides in everyday life. I wish I could take a slide to work instead of sitting in traffic...

...of course there's the slide at The Minnesota State Fair

...and this looks like it's from a school?

Poster Love: Dipped in Acid

So my friend Lucas, who I used to work with when I was over at Spunk, has done it again. Check out this gorgeous poster fresh on his site.

ps: note the scandalous activity throughout the poster... I love that it looks all innocent until you look closely (well, I guess the huge phallic building is a tip-off).

More Cupcakes?

So, I actually DID make the cupcakes I posted a while back. They were tasty (albeit a shitton of work) and they have peaked my interest of specialty cupcakes. Add in the fact that I've become addicted to Pintrest (but more on that later), where I found this recipe, and wha-la: Mountain Dew cupcakes! Again, it looks like a labor intensive recipe, but it just may be worth it.

All Things Cupcake

Now that's handmade

Hand dyed, screen printed, stamped and folded. Holy schmolies, I'm impressed.

Shark Week!

I haven't had cable in over a year (and not because I'm all above having 100 channels, trust me, if I could afford it, I would totally have all the channels available to man) but this graphic for Shark Week by Ty Mattson definitely caught my eye.

Ty Mattson // Mattson Creative

Ty has an amazing portfolio of work (and is one of the nicest guys to work with), so be sure to hop over and check his site out.

Update // I see Kelly over at Design Crush posted some of Ty's work today, too!
