MIA: Get Graphic

Wow, sorry for the week delay! Surprisingly, that's the longest I've gone between posts in over a year!

image ripped from AIGA MN's event page

To get back on track I thought I'd tell ya'll about a fantastic FREE EVENT tomorrow at the MIA (Minneapolis Institute of Arts). Get Graphic is going to be an evening of poster art, wood type, and music.  Co-sponsored by AIGA MN, my über favorite wood type nerds, Hamilton Wood Type Museum will be there- which should be reason enough to venture out on a Thursday night.

Oh yeah, I'll be there to. :)

Hooray for Hamilton

I visited Hamilton fall of '09 and loved it! Super excited for them and their new partnership with Target!

Design Camp re-cap: Studio On Fire workshop

I had the pleasure of working with Studio On Fire at the workshop they hosted at this year's Design Camp. It was two tiring days of cleaning and sorting woodtype, wiping down photopolymer plates and scrubbing wood planks- but totally worth it! People were pumped, not to mention they made some really great stuff!

Check out SOF's blog Beast Pieces for complete coverage. I nabbed some of their photos here for a sneak peek.

Blogs I Stalk: small caps

Since I began working in a design and letterpress studio I've really started to appreciate all of the work that goes into printing. What has really caught my attention is the old school wood type floating around the shop (and I've been lucky enough to pull a couple proof prints for projects... try saying that three times fast). That fascination combined with my constant blog stalking let me to the small caps site. Written by an artist in Berlin (don't worry they provide translations for most of the writing on the blog), there are some fun blurbs and explorations, not to mention a peek into life across the globe.

Recently posted were exercises of wood type on vintage maps, available in their shop. My personal favorite shown below (Australia!!). Not to mention I love the German version of Ahoy!
