Ever have one of those moments where you're not sure if the person you're talking to is listening? Or understanding? What's that? All the time, you say?
Yeah... me too.

Swearing Makes Me Smile
Some days you just aren't as jovial as you want to be. Today is one of those days for me. One side of my nose is runny, I haven't had any coffee (only tea, for said runny nose) and blinking seems to take an enormous amount of effort. Needless to say, I could've passed on the whole "work" thing today. But alas...
Luckily I came across this video. I've posted about the site and the poster in the past, but this is my favorite installment from these dudes thus far. The whole "Go for it." sentimentality really strikes a cord with me.

ps: don't you love his wallpaper "I work because I love this shit." ...that's the way it should be.

Flashback
buy me! |
When I saw this vintage nut cracker bowl I was jolted back to my grandparent's house where one of these sat on the coffee table. It took my brother and I YEARS to figure out what it was. Even when an adult would tell us "it's a nut cracker," we had no idea what that meant (really, when you're that little peanuts and cashews are about all the nuts you eat and generally are pre-shelled- what's the need for tools?).
But, all that didn't stop us from playing with it. From the smasher and pickers (them there's technical terms), to the conveniently shaped dish (looks like a good pretend wheel to me!) we could NEVER leave it alone- I'm sure much to my Grandma's chagrin.
Anywhoo, bop on over to the pinkshirtsandcarwrecks vintage shop if you have some children to entertain and or need a good wheel for the fort you're building out of couch cushions in the living room.

Pop Up Party Jealousy
Jordan Ferney, of Oh Happy Day, wrote a great post yesterday on the Real Simple blog about throwing a pop up dinner party.
Needless to say, I'm super jealous. This is now on my to-do list for the fall. Which has me thinking, where would be a good place to hold this lovely par-tay?

MIA: Get Graphic
Wow, sorry for the week delay! Surprisingly, that's the longest I've gone between posts in over a year!
To get back on track I thought I'd tell ya'll about a fantastic FREE EVENT tomorrow at the MIA (Minneapolis Institute of Arts). Get Graphic is going to be an evening of poster art, wood type, and music. Co-sponsored by AIGA MN, my über favorite wood type nerds, Hamilton Wood Type Museum will be there- which should be reason enough to venture out on a Thursday night.
Oh yeah, I'll be there to. :)

Design Camp 2011 Preview: Jolby!
That's right, I'm on the committee for AIGA MN's Design Camp yet again... don't judge.
(Btw, registration is filling ridiculously fast, so be sure to get in on this early).
I can't even begin to say how excited I am that Jolby is speaking at Design Camp this year! I have a complete design crush on the patterns and textures that are woven throughout their work. Aaaand it all seems so FUN!
I can't wait, it's going to be a blast to have these dudes up north for the weekend...

Whistling Moves
Is anyone else as obsessed with this song as I am? It's shameful, really, how excited I get when this cheesy pop song comes on.
Nope, I take it back, no shame involved. Love it!

Guess who has an invitation suite in the fall issue Martha Stewart Weddings... this girl does! Go pick up the fall issue that hits newsstands today and look for the suite by Studio On Fire (the letterpress studio where I work). There's also a nice sneak peak on the Martha Stewart Weddings website.

Email Closers
Embroidered Letters
Hm... more threaded letters. Did I miss a memo? Why wasn't I warned this was going to be the cool new trend? I would have jumped on that bandwagon... soooo beautiful.
